Users now share more than 70 million photos and videos every day.
The Instagram smartphone app enables users to take pictures and share them through Instagram and other leading social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. Users can upload photos and short videos, follow other users’ feeds. Images can be geotagged with longitude and latitude coordinates, or the name of a location. Instagram was acquired by Facebook in April 2012 for approximately US$ 1 billion in cash and stock. Since the launched in October 2010, Instagram has grown to a global community of more than 300 million active users that share more than 70 million photos and videos every day.
Instagram has recently focused on helping users to discover photos and videos from people they care about. In November 2014, the service introduced a People tab on the Explore page, which highlights interesting accounts to follow. In December 2014, the company started to roll out verified badges for celebrities, athletes and brands, making it easier to connect with the authentic accounts users are looking for.
